KEEPING YOUR DISTANCE:

HOW TO SET SAFETY DISTANCES AND ENSURE THE SEPARATION OF PERSONNEL FROM MACHINERY HAZARDS.

In this last part of our “Questioning Machinery Safety Integrity” webinar series, we address the issue of separation of personnel from machinery hazards. Specifically, we will be looking at the positioning of a correctly designed protective measure from the hazard.

When a risk assessment is performed, we rapidly identify the effect of contact with the hazardous motion or energy. But all too often the location of the installed protective measures fail to take into account the users and their tasks in relation to the position of that hazard.

Watch this webinar and find out the correct rules for setting safety distances with guarding and safety sensing devices.

QUESTIONING MACHINE SAFETY INTEGRITY:

SAFE GUARDING AND INTERLOCKING TECHNIQUES.

In this session, we look at the application of safety devices on machinery. We link together the pros and cons of different safety devices, and their compliance to the relevant standards.

We will talk about the application of guarding methods in relation to what has been found in a risk assessment. There is little point in guarding the machine if it doesn’t reduce the hazards to an acceptable level.

We will cover guarding, presence sensing plus other means of interlocking the active protective measures into the control system. We will discuss the selection path of protective measures and how that relates to risk assessment. Finally, we will address the safety measure to ensure approach speeds are taken into account.
